What if it rains?

(Rain contingency plan)

Option 1

Option 2

  • 情况A

Option 3

#JUMIBRIDEAcademy:

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

“What should I do if it rains on my wedding day / pre-wedding session ?”

Many of our JuMi brides have a love and hate relationship with Vancouver’s weather. And that may be because, for most of the year, Vancouver experiences rainy and/or cloudy days.

But what we tend to forget is that one of the most important things to keep in mind when having a photoshoot is to maintain a positive mindset. From personal experience, we can tell you that brides with good vibes usually end up getting the best results from their sessions :)!

Even during our very own prewedding as well as wedding day, we were caught up in extreme weather conditions. We got rained on and snowed on – One of them being rare snow in 10 years during our prewedding in Venice. But that didn’t prevent us from pursuing the shoot, and the results were still amazing!

If it’s still 3-5 days prior to the day, please don’t panic upon seeing a chance of rain in the weather forecast. In over ten years of photographing weddings in Vancouver, there have been countless times when the forecast turned out wrong. Completely.

Although there may be times when we might really be caught in the middle of unideal weather, there are still quite a lot of ways to take your wedding photos beautifully. We have had tons of experience working in all kinds of lighting and weather conditions, and we know how to work with what we have to make sure that your photos turn out great no matter what. If you’re worried about the weather on the day of your shoot, read our following rain contingency plan, so you won’t have to worry about not capturing some of the best moments of your life. Let’s dive in.

JuMi Rain Contigency Plan

OPTION 1

Reschedule

If the amount of rain that day is too heavy (8 on a scale of 10), or if golden hour is your “absolutely must have”, you would want to be on the safe side and reschedule.

Our 1st rescheduling due to weather is free of charge, and we will move your session to the next available date based on your preferred schedule, and our availability.

However, in the peak shooting season (May-August), when the photographer and makeup artist’s schedules are all full, the rescheduling might lead to a one-month wait, or even two or three months in some cases.

If your wedding date is approaching and you need photos urgently, it is recommended that you avoid this option.

OPTION 2

Shoot in the rain

* Case A

    *Reserve an alternate venue

If you are currently looking at a week or so before the shoot, we recommend that you book an indoor location ahead of time. You can book a cafe, an industrial-style warehouse, an Airbnb, a studio; or you can also book a hotel suite with natural light for a few boudoir-style shots.

This way, if it rains, you can still push through with the shoot without having to reschedule; if it doesn’t, then you can have more locations for your session! *Win.

* Case B

    *Shoot under bridge/overhead cover

If it is cloudy and rainy on the day of shoot since it’s impossible to predict the cloud’s mood in advance, we will do our best to adjust the photoshoot route for you. All you have to do is stay open-minded!

We will be shooting outdoors while it is still dry. And when the rain starts, we will try to change the scene and shoot in shaded places where there are eaves or bridges that are still picture-perfect for you.

This will mean that your original shooting route may be disrupted, but we will guide you through to make sure we can get the best light and weather.

* Case C

    * Shoot in the rain with picture-perfect props

If it does rain on the day of the shoot and you still want to continue on, don’t worry! We can still make it work and get some great shots. Prepare umbrellas -transparent, or all black, or any good-looking umbrella- your photos will be unique!

In fact, some specific romantic scenes actually only work on rainy days. With a few adjustments and thorough preparations, you can still capture exquisite memories.

**The only downside when shooting in the rain:  Once your hair gets wet, it won’t keep its natural volume unless you blow dry and restyle.

**If the ground is too wet or muddy, especially at a beach or forest scene, it may incur an extra $300-400 wedding dress dry cleaning fee.

OPTION 3

Break down to 2 photoshoot dates

If your shoot involves a venue that has been booked and cannot be rescheduled, you may want to reschedule partially.

With this, we will continue to shoot at the original site (Indoor venues are generally sheltered, so we can still do it even if it rains), and continue with the other outdoor location on a different date.

**The second photoshoot will be counted as a new session and will be postponed to the next available date based on the team’s schedule.

**The second photoshoot will incur a rescheduling fee of $1000 (including the makeup artist’s fee for the second look).

Afterall, even when we are caught in less than perfect conditions, there are still many ways to create stunning wedding photos. As long as you, our dear JuMi bride, have an optimistic attitude and prepare accordingly, the rain might turn out to be a pleasant surprise!

Some general reminders to take note of:

  • If you decide to reschedule, and your package comes with bouquets –  You must inform the JuMi team 48 hours in advance. The florist will not be able to cancel within 48 hours, and may not be able to provide the bouquet again on the rescheduled date.
  • We will ask you to make a final decision by 7 PM the day before the photoshoot.
  • No matter what you end up choosing, we respect your choice and will try our best to help you get the best outcome 🙂
