Editorial Concept // Styling your Pre Wedding Photos

Do you want to make your pre-wedding pictures even more special? Then splurging on styling your pre-wedding photoshoot might be the right choice. Here is everything you need to know about what we include in styling your pre-wedding shoots, and how they can complement your wedding collection!

What is an Editorial Concept?

Also known as ‘concept shoots’, editorial pre-wedding pictures are the perfect addition to your wedding photography package. Proper editorial wedding photoshoots are the ones showcased in those beautiful bridal magazine spreads. With the right team, you can also have a professional wedding photoshoot inspired by styled shoots!

Of course, traditional pictures on the day of are great, but editorial-inspired pics go one step further. We thoroughly enjoy planning editorial concept shoots for our clients: every detail is intentional and the result is bridal magazine-worthy!

Why we love Editorial Concept:

For your wedding photographs, a styled shoot lets you have one-of-a-kind pictures, full of meaningful details and with professional results. Having a concept to workaround lets you and your partner be the leads in your own fairy tale and get amazing wedding photographs you can call your own. It’s a way to elevate the couple’s own taste and take it to a new level.

For us, sessions with an editorial concept are some of the most memorable photoshoots. We love the creativity of finding the right concept for each couple! Initially, we worked on plenty of editorial-inspired wedding shoots for our own pre-wedding pictures. Soon, other couples wanted to hire us to create their own. It’s such an intensive and creative process that nowadays we only work on a single editorial concept shoot a month. These photoshoots can be booked on top of your pre-wedding photography packages, and serve as a different way of having a pre-wedding session.

The process of planning an editorial concept pre-wedding photoshoot

Since here at JuMi we’ve worked on many sessions inspired by style shoots, we have a system in place. This lets you and your partner focus on the fun details like outfits and themes, while we take care of the rest. Here’s what it looks like:

Step 1. Creative concept meeting

3~4 months before the actual shoot, we get together for a creative concept meeting. Many of our clients already have some kind of idea when they come to JuMi for an editorial concept photoshoot. We will absorb your vision and brew on it for a few weeks! In this meeting, we’ll ask all the questions to understand the core of what you love. What you like, why you guys like it and how you feel about a specific theme. This first step is essential for us to make the final idea creative inspired by your vision. We would also be asking your investment range for decor and florals, it usually ranges from $6000~$8000 depending on the amount of florals.

Step 2. Book venues

After the concept meeting, we’ll know whether or not your prewedding photoshoot will need a specific venue. This might or might not be the actual wedding venue. At this point, we’ll contact the venue and get some prospective dates. Remember that some European Vancouver venues, like Hycroft, are in high demand. In that case, we need to book months in advance.

Step 3. Create a mood board

Once we’re done with the creative concept meeting, we’ll go back to work and research. Using Pinterest, Behance, Instagram and our own previous photoshoots we’ll put together a mood board. This is a visual presentation that shows the core of your wedding style shoot, including colours, outfit styles, props and any other extras.

We’ll create 1 or 2 mood boards. These will have the overall vibe and direction of what you can expect on the day.

Step 4. Contact the team

We’ll get in touch with the teams that will bring our vision together. This means looking for props, lighting, setting, outfits… everything we need to make the concept a reality. Then we would inform you the final total quote assembled from all the vendors.

Step 5. Plan and shoot!

Editorial pre-wedding photoshoots are heavily planned: it’s like a commercial photoshoot! We have very little time to experiment, and every picture is shot with intention. Once we’ve figured out angles, lighting and mood beforehand, shooting day is a breeze. On the day of, we’ll give you and your partner ‘roles’ as if you were movie actors. You’ll have fun being in character, and we’ll shoot gorgeous wedding pics full of personality.

And that’s it! As professional wedding photographers, we strive to make sure you and your partner enjoy the pre-wedding experience. We’ll make sure everything is running smoothly, and you don’t have to worry about a thing!
